Lexeri macOS app
The macOS app brings the term check to every application on the Mac: your software opens documents with Lexeri and hands over texts via Shortcuts or the Services menu. The result shows up in the Lexeri sidebar.
The app lives in the menu bar and shows Lexeri in a sidebar. Users sign in with their Lexeri credentials right in the sidebar; checks run against the termbases they have access to. The app needs no API token.
It also checks selected text from any application with ⌃⇧L; for that it needs the permission under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. The ways on this page work without it.
Hand documents and texts to the macOS app
Your application opens a document with Lexeri like with any other program. The app uploads it as a temporary file and shows the check form in the sidebar; your file stays unchanged.
$ open -b com.lexeri.mac ~/Projects/Manual.docxFrom Swift, with the bundle ID com.lexeri.mac:
import AppKit
let document = URL(fileURLWithPath: NSHomeDirectory() + "/Projects/Manual.docx")if let lexeri = NSWorkspace.shared.urlForApplication(withBundleIdentifier: "com.lexeri.mac") { NSWorkspace.shared.open([document], withApplicationAt: lexeri, configuration: NSWorkspace.OpenConfiguration())}Finder works the same way: Open With → Lexeri or drop the file on the app icon. Lexeri never becomes the default app for a format.
Your application hands over texts via a shortcut or the Services menu.

Siri Shortcuts for Lexeri
The app comes with two actions for the Shortcuts app. They are available after the first start, without any setup:
- Check Text with Lexeri opens the sidebar with the given text. Without text, the action takes the clipboard.
- Check Document with Lexeri uploads a document and opens the check form, e.g. as a Quick Action in Finder.
Siri responds to "Check text with Lexeri" and "Check my clipboard with Lexeri".
Example: check selected text
- Create a shortcut in the Shortcuts app and turn on Use as Quick Action in its details, with text as input.
- Add the action Check Text with Lexeri and choose the shortcut input as text.
- Now send selected text from any app to the shortcut via Services; Lexeri shows the result in the sidebar.
From scripts and applications
Shortcuts also run from the command line. A shortcut "Lexeri check" with the action Check Text with Lexeri and no text checks the clipboard; a shortcut "Lexeri document" with Check Document with Lexeri checks the file passed in:
$ echo "Check the cooling water tank regularly." | pbcopy$ shortcuts run "Lexeri check"$ shortcuts run "Lexeri document" --input-path ~/Projects/Manual.docxChecks from the Services menu
For selected text the app provides a service: right-click the selection → Services → Check Text with Lexeri, or use the app menu under Services. The service needs no Accessibility permission. If it does not show up, enable it once under System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Services; you can also assign a key combination there.
In your application
AppKit text views offer the service on their own. Custom views take part in the Services menu by implementing NSServicesMenuRequestor and providing the selection as text. Your application can also call the service directly:
import AppKit
let pasteboard = NSPasteboard(name: NSPasteboard.Name("com.example.lexeri-check"))pasteboard.clearContents()pasteboard.setString("Check the cooling water tank regularly.", forType: .string)
// The English service name works in every language.NSPerformService("Check Text with Lexeri", pasteboard)Installation & requirements
The app ships as a notarized disk image and is signed by Lexeri GmbH (Developer ID). Drag Lexeri into the Applications folder. It is not on the App Store because capturing text with the hotkey has to run outside the sandbox.
- macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, Apple silicon or Intel
- A Lexeri account with access to at least one termbase
- For the hotkey: the Accessibility permission
Current version: Lexeri-1.0.9.dmg.
- The app checks for updates itself and starts at login (can be turned off in its menu).
- Log files:
~/Library/Logs/Lexeri/, one file per day, kept for 14 days. - Settings:
defaults read com.lexeri.mac.
