Lexeri Windows app

AppWindows 10 and 11Beta

The Windows app brings the term check to every application: your software hands over documents by starting the app, and selected text can be checked with a hotkey. The result shows up in the Lexeri sidebar.

The app runs in the notification area of the taskbar and shows Lexeri in a sidebar at the edge of the screen. Users sign in with their Lexeri credentials right in the sidebar; checks run against the termbases they have access to. The app needs no API token.

How users check texts in the sidebar is described in the help center article Term checking with Lexeri's Windows app.

Hand over a document for checking

Your application hands over a document by starting Lexeri.exe with the absolute path of the file as argument. If the app is running already, the running instance takes the document; otherwise the app starts with it. The install folder is in the registry under HKLM\Software\Lexeri GmbH\Lexeri, value InstallPath.

Program.cs
using System.Diagnostics;using Microsoft.Win32;
// The app's install folder (default: C:\Program Files\Lexeri\)using var key = RegistryKey    .OpenBaseKey(RegistryHive.LocalMachine, RegistryView.Registry64)    .OpenSubKey(@"Software\Lexeri GmbH\Lexeri");var folder = key?.GetValue("InstallPath") as string;
if (folder != null){    var start = new ProcessStartInfo(Path.Combine(folder, "Lexeri.exe"));    start.ArgumentList.Add(@"C:\Projects\Manual.docx");    Process.Start(start);}

The same in PowerShell:

$folder = (Get-ItemProperty 'HKLM:\Software\Lexeri GmbH\Lexeri').InstallPathStart-Process (Join-Path $folder 'Lexeri.exe') -ArgumentList '"C:\Projects\Manual.docx"'

What happens next:

  1. The app uploads the document to Lexeri as a temporary file. Your file stays unchanged.
  2. The sidebar opens the check form; users who are not signed in sign in first.
  3. Choose the termbase, language and filters, then Start term check – the matches appear in the sidebar.

The app checks one document per call and ignores further arguments. In Explorer, users get the same path via Send to → Lexeri (on Windows 11 under Show more options).

Check selected text with a hotkey

While the app runs, it checks selected text from any application: select the text, press Win+Shift+L and the sidebar shows the text for checking. The hotkey can be changed in the menu of the tray icon under Hotkey: Win+Shift+L, Ctrl+Shift+L, Ctrl+Alt+L or Win+Shift+K.

How the app reads the selection

  1. UI Automation: the app reads the selection through the TextPattern of the focused element. The clipboard stays untouched.
  2. Copy: if UI Automation returns nothing, the app sends WM_COPY to the control and then simulates Ctrl+C. It restores the previous clipboard content afterwards.

It takes up to one million characters.

Installation & requirements

The app is installed as an MSI package for all users of the computer into C:\Program Files\Lexeri\. Package and program are signed by Lexeri GmbH.

  • Windows 10 version 1809 or later, or Windows 11, 64-bit (x64)
  • Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime (included in Windows 11)
  • Administrator rights for the installation
  • A Lexeri account with access to at least one termbase

Current version: Lexeri-1.0.14.msi.

Managed deployment

For software deployment (e.g. Intune or SCCM) the package installs silently. It needs an elevated context.

msiexec /i Lexeri-1.0.14.msi /qn /norestart /l*v install.log
# Other install folder; WebView2 is deployed separatelymsiexec /i Lexeri-1.0.14.msi /qn /norestart INSTALLFOLDER="D:\Apps\Lexeri" SKIPWEBVIEW2CHECK=1

After a silent installation the app does not start by itself. On its first start it sets up autostart with Windows and the Send to → Lexeri entry for that user.

Updates and diagnostics

  • The app checks for updates at launch and periodically and installs signed packages itself; manually via Check for Updates… in the tray menu.
  • Log files: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Lexeri\logs\, one file per day, kept for 14 days.
  • Registry: HKLM\Software\Lexeri GmbH\Lexeri with InstallPath and Version.
